Preface
The papers of Arthur N. Stunz are found in one record storage box. The collection contains photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence and writings by Dr. Stunz.
These papers were given by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bigham to Ashland University
May 6, 1997.
Introduction
The note worthy items in this collection includes the numerous compositions
written by Arthur Stunz during his college years at both the University
of Iowa and University of Chicago.
Biography
A graduate of the University of Chicago in 1928, he also received a
doctor of philosphy degree in 1939 from University of Iowa. During his
long career as an educator, he served as a
mathematics and civics teacher
at the public school level. He was a past instructor of English at Elmira
College and University of Iowa. He joined the faculty at Ashland College
in 1939 as a professor of English. In 1948 he was appointed chairman of
the department of English. A published author, he has written articles
for the London Times Literary supplement, the Journal of English Literature
and the Saturday review of Literature. He was married on July 22, 1929
to Dorothy Ida Godsen, there were no children.
